Ron Shetler
Singing Instructor
Singing Instructor, Ron Shetler, currently resides in New York City with his wife Karin, daughter Anya and son Oliver.
In addition to his private practice, he is the singing and Musical Theatre instructor at
The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre, is the proprietor of
Shetler Studios and Theatre, Inc., a performing arts complex in the heart of Manhattan comprising 16 studios, 3 theatres and a screening room plus
the founder and president of Shetler Studios THEATRICAL DEVELOPMENT GROUPS, Corp., a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit organization founded in 2003.
TDG provides a diverse program of performances, showcases, readings, workshops, seminars and video production, all devoted to the creation,
development and promotion of new work. The TDG family includes three divisions of emerging artist,
The Bridge Theatre Company,
Stepstone Films, and TDG CONNECTIONS
(the workshop and seminar programs). Within the TDG team, emerging artistic leaders in the stage and screen industries find opportunity
through various creative initiatives to advance their training and gain access to the professional world. With a twin focus on the
development of scripts for both stage and screen, the unique TDG team of directors, playwrights, actors, designers, composers and
filmmakers invest its program with a contemporary multimedia sensibility and the ambition to advance a new artistic voice in the
New York performing arts community.
Ron has been teaching singing for over 30 years. His clients present and past include many
celebrities, Tony nominated and Tony award winning Broadway performers, famous actors,
recording artists, many, many singing and acting students (22 years at the Neighborhood Playhouse)
as well as every day people who enjoy singing for pleasure and people with injured voices.
His goal is always to assist each person in developing their voice more fully whether that be to meet the required vocal
demands necessary for the rigors of a lead in a Broadway Musical, a film role, a hit record, an adjunct to other
professional skills or for enjoyable participation at a karaoke bar. The Shetler Technique is not only simple but
gives immediate results and creates an even, seamless sound throughout each persons range with increased power,
quality and ease of production that allows for singing without fatigue. Sound Samples
In addition to coaching people in the technical aspects of singing he has developed and coaches
people in performance techniques that bring self-sufficiency in both styling and staging. His
class instruction includes a term in Musical Theatre Fundamentals and performing and an ongoing class to work
on and develop audition material which clients attend on a regular or need basis.
Mr. Shetler was graduated from the University of Redlands, with a Bachelor of Music degree in voice in 1966. He continued his
studies thereafter with Robert Weede, Oren Brown and Seth Riggs while having a 15 year performance career which included
four Broadway shows, many regional theatre shows, an album with the legendary guitarist Herb Ellis, plus film composing and
musical coordination for shows before commencing to teach singing, produce albums and direct shows.
Mr Shetler is a current member of the New York Singing Teachers Association (NYSTA), a member
of the National Associations of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and served as a faculty member for
2 years for the International Voice Foundation founded by the renowned Dr. Wilbur J. Gould MD
(scientific mentor and friend).
He considers himself lucky in that he loves what he does, enjoys the people he is privileged to work with and is so very grateful
for a loving and wonderful wife and children.
