Audition Gym

Once a certain level of singing skill is acquired, it necessitates the display of that skill for hire. The audition process is the way that this is currently accomplished. And as the amount of people applying for each job has increased, the window of opportunity has diminished both in spots available and time allocated for such display.

Given these facts, it’s a necessity to have edited songs that fully display your highest technical level and an acting arc that encompasses the greatest journey possible. AND it needs to be done in basically one minute.

Additionally, it’s important to package yourself correctly, know how to enter and exit and know how to interact with the monitor, auditors and pianist in a charmingly professional way that puts everyone at ease and leaves them wanting more.

It’s a mini show that requires tremendous focus and relaxed panache all at the same time…an eagerness for the job but without desperation…and maybe most importantly, a true joy in giving your presentation.

So we have weekly audition "workouts" where you can get input on material, find the right keys and cuts, get rehearsal tapes, discuss your acting choices and refine your presentation.

We meet every Thursday morning. Our warm-up is from 10:30 to 11 AM and then we work with a pianist from 11AM until 1PM. The group is limited to 8 participants each week. To come audit, just email me, bring your audition book, be prepared to sing a song or two and then we can talk afterwards and see if this would be appropriate for your level.
