Header: Musical Theatre Classes

TERM: Middle of September through the middle of May, every Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 10 PM.

At Shetler Studios & Theatres, Ron Shetler is now privately offering the program he exclusively developed and taught at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of Theatre.

"Ron has developed a system that works from the ground up in establishing vocal confidence and technique. His approach involves truthful singing and acting, and he manages to both challenge and support all levels. Working with Ron will ensure that you develop both as an actor and as a singer, rediscovering the joy that is at the heart of being a performer. This experience has transformed me in more ways than I can explain."

--Taylor Larsen, NYC Actor/Singer

"Ron Shetler has worked miracles with me. Since studying with him, I have access to parts of my voice I never thought possible. I had always thought of myself as an actor first, then cabaret singer, but now after taking Ron's Musical Theatre Master Class (which was a lot of fun along the way), I feel confident about auditioning for musicals -and that is a miracle itself!!"

--Charlotte Patton, NYC Actor/Singer, AEA, SAG, AFTRA

PART I: Middle of September through middle of December.

Connecting the acting with singing through an extensive series of exercises that creates a truthful emotional structure (acting beats) and a natural physical structure (staging).

"Ron creates such a safe and supportive environment. His exercises instantly removed the pressure and allowed me to fully relax and just listen to the music and live in the moment. For the first time, I wasn't worried about my vocals, I was just going for it. I felt a total freedom to play. Performing can add extra nerves, but I felt completely prepared because Ron builds the class in such a specific way. This in combination with his vocal techniques brought me up to whole new performance level"

--Alison Ryan, NYC Dancer/Singer/Actor

"Ron's exercises really helped to take the focus off of myself, which, in turn, eased my nerves - - took me out of "judgment" mode. My nervousness became energy that was refocused on the things surrounding me and gave me the freedom to explore different choices and to see that there really isn't a right or wrong way to perform a song."

--Vanessa Verduga, NYC Singer/Actor

Part II: January through middle of March.

Mounting a professional level show that is edited to give each person a chance to develop a character from beginning to end using the skills learned in Part I.

"Ron did an amazing job putting the show together. The script was cut from NINE the movie and from the stage musical to create an ensemble piece. Every character had songs and duets that showed contrast and really showed off our acting skills. It was the perfect opportunity to take everything we'd learned and apply it all in a show with choreographed dancing and the demands of deadlines. The show came out amazing and very professional. The audience loved it!!. It was a great experience!"

--Jennifer Luong, NYC Actor/Singer

"Working on the show was an unbelievable experience! I had a new confidence in my voice and in my performance ability which allowed me to focus completely on character development. Having a chance to focus on the process of developing a role without the pressure of result was such a gift."

--Alison Ryan, NYC Dancer/Singer/Actor

Part III: Middle of March through the middle of May.

Choosing and preparing audition material that is then presented to a Director, Casting Director and Manager/Agent, plus information about the business of the business.

"Well, this was a gift. I got great encouragement and feedback with this. I got to ask casting directors questions that I would never have been able to ask in normal audition circumstance. I think that the input was really helpful and on point. I came away with a much clearer idea of where I stand in the business and a few really good connections that I have followed up on and developed since."

--Kitty Hendrix, NYC Actor/Singer, AEA, SAG, AFTRA

"Auditioning has always been difficult for me, but for the first time I have a set of guidelines to follow which means I am now more prepared than ever. I got honest and constructive feedback from professionals working in the business, so for the first time I know exactly what I've been doing wrong and how to fix it! Oh yes...and I got signed by a manager. Thanks, Ron."

--ALISON RYAN, NYC Dancer/Singer/Actor

"Going through several rounds of auditions totally took the enigma and fear out of auditioning for musical theatre. We were able to layer on the constructive criticism we received each week. I can now go in and know how to work the room, which relaxes me because it gives me a chance to interact with the pianist and casting directors as human beings."

--VANESSA VERDUGA, NYC Singer/Actor
